CompareMixrounds vs. Filepass

The client review Filepass built,
plus the business it leaves you to run.

Filepass built a good waveform-review tool. Mixrounds is that — with contracts, invoicing, intake and CRM in the same link, so you're not running a Filepass + HoneyBook + WeTransfer stack to close one project.

Where each fits

The tools are shaped for
different jobs.

Ffilepass is for

Engineers whose whole workflow is "listen and comment."

Solo engineers who already have contracts, invoicing and intake solved elsewhere — a lawyer's template, a bookkeeper, a Stripe payment link — and just need a clean waveform-review room for the mix itself. Filepass does the review well; if the rest of the business isn't your problem, it's a fine choice.

mixrounds is for

Engineers running the whole business off the same tool.

You don't want a Filepass tab, a HoneyBook tab, and a WeTransfer tab open to close one project. Mixrounds bundles review, revision-round tracking, contracts, invoicing and intake behind one link — so brief through paid lives in the same place, tied to the same client.

Deep dive

The four things Filepass
doesn't do.

FWithout Mixrounds

You count rounds in your head.

Filepass tracks versions, not rounds. Round 4, round 5, round 6 all look the same to the tool — a new file uploaded. Whether the client has burned through the three you agreed on is a conversation you have to remember to have, backed by a contract stored somewhere else.

≈ Filepass + a spreadsheet + a good memory
With Mixrounds

Rounds are tied to the contract, counted live.

Your intake sets the included rounds. Each approval or change request advances a counter you and the client both see. Past the limit, the next request becomes a change order with a price on it — not a favor.

Rounds used2 / 3
Filepass genuinely does version history well — we don't try to replace that; we just add scope on top.

A DocuSign link, a PDF, then Filepass.

You write the work-for-hire in a doc, send it through a signing tool, save the countersigned PDF in Dropbox, then start the review in a totally separate app. Three tools before the first mix goes out.

≈ Filepass + HoneyBook (or DocuSign + a template)
With Mixrounds

Click-to-agree work-for-hire, in the same link.

A work-for-hire template shaped for engineers — deliverables, rounds, IP transfer — signed in the client portal before they hear the first bounce. Attached to the project, referenced by the round counter.

You bill from a totally different tool.

Deposit through a Stripe payment link. Balance invoice through HoneyBook or Wave. Change orders in a follow-up email. The revenue side of the project lives nowhere near the file the client is actually listening to.

≈ Filepass + HoneyBook / Wave / Stripe links
With Mixrounds

Invoices next to the mix, paid with Stripe.

Deposit before the brief. Balance on final delivery. Change orders auto-generated when the round counter tips over. All under the same project, all payable inside the client portal.

A Google Form, then a copy-paste.

You send the client a Typeform or Google Form for the brief — refs, deadline, deliverables — then paste the answers into your notes and mentally match them against every round of feedback as it comes in.

≈ Filepass + Google Forms + a notes doc
With Mixrounds

Intake in the same portal as the review.

A shaped-for-audio intake form — refs, target loudness, deliverables, deadline — that becomes the project brief. The AI feedback layer reads it, so when a comment drifts from the brief, you know.

Filepass and HoneyBook prices reflect their public mid-tier plans as of Oct 2026, in USD. Your actual bill depends on tier — we picked the setup that matches what a working freelance engineer typically needs. Mixrounds shows the founder rate for early members; public plans undercut the stack at launch.

Common questions

If you're evaluating.

Yes — you can run a project through both on the same track if you want to feel the difference. Some engineers open a new project in Mixrounds, keep an existing one running in Filepass, and compare the client experience end to end before moving over. There is no exclusivity clause.
